Girls night out - win tickets
18 November 2009
A GLOBAL phenomenon billed as 'the ultimate girls' night out' is due to bring mirth and naughtiness to Weston's Playhouse next month.
The Vagina Monologues' repertoire of witty female banter will be delivered by cast of three Sarah Jayne Dunn, of Channel 4's Hollyoaks, Zaraah Abrahams of Waterloo Road and multi-talented writer, actress, comedienne and presenter Mel Giedroyc from the comedy duo Mel and Sue.
The show was written by New Yorker Eve Ensler, who asked more than 200 women of all ages, ethnic backgrounds and walks of life to share their most intimate secrets in 'vagina interviews' talking about normally-taboo topics as birth, sex, orgasms and relationships with revelatory results.
It has seen multiple productions in more than 25 countries with open-ended runs in New York and Paris and has been seen by two million men and women during 3,000 performances.
It has also been critically applauded receiving prestigious nominations for Drama Desk and Obie awards in 1999 in New York, and a nomination for the 2002 Olivier Award for best entertainment.
Some of the world's most successful women have taken part in the show including Kate Winslet, Glenn Close, Gillian Anderson, Whoopi Goldberg, Mel B, Sharon Osbourne, Dannii Minogue, Ruby Wax, Lisa Stansfield, Jerry Hall, Sophie Dahl, Mariella Frostrup, Honor Blackman, and Maureen Lipman.
A percentage of ticket sales from each performance is donated to the V-day fund, an organisation which provides aid to women and girls who have been victims of abuse and violence.
Since May 2001 the West End and touring production of The Vagina Monologues has donated in excess of £250,000 to regional charities.
Tickets to the show, on December 4, cost £17.50 or £20 and are available from the box office on 01934 645544 or by logging onto www.theplayhouse.co.uk
