The 200+ Club grows

21st February 2008

Bob Filmer and John Page.
DYING for some dosh and fancy your chances of winning? Then join the 200+ Club.
The club, which was founded in Brent Knoll, now has members in Devon, Milton Keynes and even Australia and America.
Every member purchases a number for £12 and then a monthly draw is held at village events, most recently the traditional Somerset Wassail at West Croft Cider Farm in January.
Organiser Bob Filmer said: “We have members in far flung places because either residents have moved away or current residents have invited family and friends to join.
“Since the club started it has gone from strength to strength. At first we were called the 100+ Club and in the first year we had 133 members.
“We now have 328 numbers owned by about 220-230 residents and couples so perhaps we will have to change the name to the 300+ Club soon.”
The group does not have regular meetings but members are invited to village events to watch the draw taking place.
Prizes range from £6-£20 and in June extra prizes are drawn at the village fete for £60 and £40.
Winners also have an extra treat at Christmas when the top prize rises to £120.
Bob joked: “There have been people who complain they never win and those that seem to win regularly tend to keep quiet about it.”
Proceeds from the club go towards Brent Knoll Parish Hall funds. So far more than £14,000 has been paid out to winners and £18,000 has been raised for the hall.
