Making sweet music

•IN TUNE: The members of Burnham and Highbridge Choral Society.

THE sound of sweet music coming from The Methodist Church in College Street, Burnham, each Thursday, is that of members of the choral society.
The group is now in its 35th year.

Its first performance was  in December 1972, when the performers were known simply as 'The Parish Choir.'

Burnham and Highbridge Choral Society meets between September and March, during which time it prepares for both a carol concert in aid of charity and its Spring concert.

John Henshaw has been the musical director for the group since 1995. The group's chairman, Hazel Braund, describes him as having 'a wonderful appreciation and interpretation of the music' and says he 'motivates members with his enthusiasm and sense of humour which always makes rehearsals instructive and entertaining.'

The number of people in the society fluctuates between 50 and 60 people and is open to people living from Weston to Bridgwater.

On March 24 the group will perform for audiences at St Andrew's Church in Burnham at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £6, can be bought at GC Music in College Street, or on the door.
