It’s music for everyone

PROFESSIONAL musicians take to the stage for the concerts put on by Churchill Music throughout the year.
In the past these have included a string band, choirs, jazz performers and various instrumental and singing experts.
They also include performances for the group’s Young Musician of the Year Competition, which gives talented youths in the area a chance to showcase their talents.
As well as arranging performances, Churchill Music also runs a youth project.
It involves professional musicians hosting workshops in the village’s primary and community school.
The group has even helped the primary school buy violins so the children have the chance to learn how to play them.
All money raised by concerts and membership fees is used to provide these workshops.
Trustee Jan Murray said: “Our aim is to bring performance musicians to local people and introduce them to the wonder of good music.
“We think it is very important that school pupils are given the option of learning more about music.
“The headteacher of Churchill Community School, Dr Barry Wratten, said our work is innovative, which is a great honour.”
Although the group does not have a regular meeting place or time, music enthusiasts can become ‘champions’, giving them entrance to all the concerts throughout the year.
The next event to be put on by Churchill Music will be held on April 18 at St John the Baptist Church.
It will feature Eden, a guitar duo, along with a soprano and piano duo.
Tickets, priced £4-10.50, are available from Ursula Dornton on 01934 852919.
