Excellence in dance and art
12th July 2007

FOUNDED in 1998, Danzatak has now been running for over nine years.
It promotes contemporary dancing over the Sedgemoor district and is closely partnered with the Kings of Wessex School.
Most of the dancers attend the school itself. Many of the members who join the club are beginners and new to the world of dance.
The club meets every Thursday night at the Kings of Wessex Leisure Centre in Cheddar.
The managing team and artistic director run the club voluntarily. They hope that the members who join their club will in time gain confidence through learning dance, creating dance and understanding dance and after a year or two of steady attendance will become competent performers.
In February 2005, the club visited a small town in Latvia called Saldus where they spent the week with traditional Latvian dancers and shared their talents. Almost a year later in September 2006, Danzatak received visitors from Alzklraukle, Latvia and shared a day of dance with a group of young traditional dancers.
The club also recently performed two main dances at the prestigious youth dance festival. The dances were choreographed by the in-house choreographers and the members themselves. Sharon Crawford is one of the in-house choreographers; she has been with the company for over six years and has a degree from the University of Coventry.
They hope to represent an excellence in dance as an art and that it will become a permanent part of the local and county arts scene. For more details visit www.danzatak.co.uk
