Squad searches for boys

Somerset Shadows Cheerleading Squad.
IT is a little known fact that cheerleading was started originally by boys on the touchlines supporting their teammates back in the 1920s.
However, it does go some way to explaining how Chris Lovell became involved in coaching the Somerset Shadows Cheerleading Squad.
His wife, Lisa-Jane, is a teacher at the Davey School of Dance in Worle, and also helps out with coaching.
There are two boys among the troop which is crucial, says Chris, because of the strength needed to lift other members of the group.
He said: “We would like to have some more boys join the squad as we think a mix is always good.”
Chris’ son, 15-year-old John, is a member and the group is currently looking for more guys to join its ranks.
Despite being only a year old, the group has already tasted success at the Western Classic Cheerleading competition in Wales where the juniors scooped third place.
Before Christmas, the group will be attending the Southern Classic in Brighton, where members hope to claim more honours.
The squad caters for children aged nine upwards and at present its oldest member is aged 21.
Chris has plans to take the squad to Sweden or America to compete internationally.
He said: “We have performed all over Weston at different charity and sporting events.
“The difficult thing is funding because we are a not-for-profit organisation we rely on donation from others.”
