Colourful cavalcade

EVERY November, thousands of people line the streets of Weston for Europe’s biggest illuminated carnival.
More than 100 entries made up of brightly lit floats, community groups and walkers in fancy dress, turn out for the annual parade around town.
The Somerset carnivals provide some of the largest illuminated processions in the world and date back 400 years.
The carnival circuit takes in towns around the county on different nights through October and November, with the main event at Bridgwater - the home of carnival.
The carnival floats are designed and built by dedicated clubs around the West Country.
The clubs have many members who raise money throughout the year, and work relentlessly to put together their spectacular carnival entries, some of which can be up to 100ft long, illuminated by tens of thousands of light bulbs and pulled by tractors.
