Drink up thee cider...
If you like a drop of the gold stuff, made from apples from across Somerset, then a visit to Thatchers Cider in Sandford is a must in the holiday diary.
William Thatcher first started making cider for farm workers in the early 1900s but, with each new decade, the demand for Thatchers Cider grew.
Traditional methods are used at the firm’s Sandford base to make the tipple, including conditioning cider in oak vats to give the cider its unique character.
Thatchers still produces some of the original recipes, which are just as popular today as they were decades ago.
And in 2004, members of the family gathered at the family home, Myrtle Farm in Sandford, to celebrate a century of cider making.
Thatchers Farm Shop offers a wide choice of products where you can taste the cider before you buy. Draught cider, drawn straight from the barrel, is on tap together with seasonal gift packs, bottled ciders and jugs. Branded items - from pens to umbrellas and glasses to clothing - are on sale along with cheeses, chutneys and other tempting produce to complement the cider.
Thatchers Cider Company Ltd can be found at Myrtle Farm, Sandford. It is open Monday to Saturday from 9am-6pm and Sunday and bank holidays from 10am to 1pm.
