Going back to nature

UPHILL is a delightful village situated on the southern edge of Weston and ideal for those wanting to experience the quiet life away from the hustle and bustle of a town centre.
The fact that it lies by the coast makes it an ideal setting for a family picnic or relaxing stroll around one of its many trails.
A visit to the oldest building to survive in Uphill is well worth a visit. The Church of St Nicholas, dating back to the Norman Conquest, emanates a true sense of history.
For those who are more energetic, why not try sailing - the Uphill boatyard and chandler’s shop provides plenty to do for those with an interest in all things nautical. Anyone wanting to get close to nature can enjoy the flowers in the donkey field, which is cared for by the Woodland Trust, or walk along the
Tidal Trail which provides a scenic route to a bird reserve with lakeside hides.
The quarry area in the village also provides a wildlife rich haven for keen twitchers and is home to owls, kestrels and other small birds. The Copse, at the eastern end of the hill behind The Grange, also houses a heronry and parent birds can be seen in Spring flying back and forth to feed their young.
