Villagers get out their glad rags

11th June 2008

The Anchor won the best pub entry in the carnival with
Pharaoh's Delight.

SKELETONS, queens, nuns, prisoners and Egyptians descended on Pill green at the weekend to celebrate the annual Rag day.

The popular event kicked off with a pet show and animal lovers took along their dogs, cats, rabbits and tortoises to be judged in the competition.

Youngsters donned colourful and crazy costumes for the fancy dress contest before the carnival procession snaked its way through the village with scores of floats and walking entries.

Hundreds of revellers also enjoyed the street entertainment and stalls before dancing the night away at the disco.

Organiser and town crier, Pauline McDade, said: “It was a wonderful day. Standards for the competitions were extremely high and hundreds of people turned up to the event.

“There was something for everyone”

All the money raised from Pill Rag will be donated to local charities.
