GIVING YOUNG PEOPLE A VOICE! |
Ensuring young people know
their rights
11th October 2007
By Imogen Walsh
THE Children’s Rights Alliance for England (CRAE) is an organisation that aims to improve the quality of life for our children and young people, it does this by ensuring young people know their rights and making sure they are being enforced across the country.
Get ready for Geneva is an exciting campaign to inform the United Nations (UN) on the state of what the children’s rights are in the UK. Luckily I have been able to get involved in this project and I am going to tell you a bit about what my role entails.
I am currently on the steering group with another 14 young people from across the UK who oversee the entire project. My job is to make sure that all the other components of the project are running efficiently. We need to be able to tell the UN how well the Government is respecting young people’s rights in England.
We are getting ready for our first annual review of our project in Geneva. We are hoping to send as many young people over to the United Nations to produce our findings of the state of young people’s rights in the UK.
I honestly believe in making a change when it comes to children’s rights, I really believe its important people know where they stand and know what to do when they feel their rights are being violated. If you wish to get involved in the project or just want to find out more information log on to the website at www.getreadyforgeneva.org.uk
