UKYP to tackle gun and knife crime

THE state of gun and knife crime across the UK has suddenly become even worse than before, with many young people being stabbed and shot on a regular basis.
It seems that locally we have escaped such atrocities but on a national scale it is most certainly a major concern.
UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) has been campaigning for reviews on why such problems occur and how they can be stopped. A DVD has been produced by members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) from London, outlining the problems of gun and knife crimes in the city, and aims to deter young people from getting involved in such activities.
‘Project: Consider’, as it was aimed to make young people consider the consequences, won the Best Broadcast Produced by Young People for Young People in the Young People Now Positive Images Awards.
Now UKYP is taking more direct action to back up the support from ‘Project: Consider’.
A group of MYPs are meeting with Jacqui Smith, the home secretary, to discuss with her how the dire problem of gun and knife crime can be tackled.
It is worrying to think that people as young as 10 are part of gangs where guns and knives are part of every day life, this must be changed and soon - before it escalates into something worse.
