GIVING YOUNG PEOPLE A VOICE!

Achievements are rewarded

6th December 2007
Report by LAUREN FRY
THE talents of young people have been recognised once again in the second North Somerset Youth Achievement awards.
The evening was an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of young people from over the course of the year.
The evening consisted of speeches, musical performances from young people and the giving out of certificates to various groups and projects.
Among those receiving awards were members of the North Somerset Youth Parliament who received certificates for their contribution to the Youth Opportunity Fund Panel.
The fantastic variety of musical performances by young people during the evening including impressive vocals from Jade Poolman, of Clevedon Youth Provision, and an amazing session by Nailsea Youth House Band ‘MOFIT’.
The chairman of North Somerset Council, Councillor David Shopland, delivered an interesting opening speech and Joshua McTaggart, Member of Youth Parliament for North Somerset, commended all the young people on their fantastic achievements.
The evening was a chance to recognise the achievements of young people from North Somerset and everyone had a fantastic time enjoying the entertainment, eating, socialising and listening to the influential stories of success from the young people.
It was fantastic to be able to celebrate the great things young people do, rather than dealing with the constant negative image we all too often receive in the press. A big well done to everyone who received awards and I’m sure we will be having many more evenings to celebrate success in the future!
