Sporting chance

20th March 2008
THOUSANDS of sporty, costume-clad runners took on the Sport Relief mile to help raise money for vulnerable people around the world.
Weston’s beach was taken over on Sunday by milers who braved the elements to do their bit for the campaign.
The event, which gave participants the choice of doing one, three or six miles was supported by Sainsbury’s.
Students from Weston College held a fancy dress fun run along the seafront on Friday, where they battled the wind to complete their challenge and raised £500.
Staff and customers from the Riverside Inn, in Cheddar, put on their kits for a very muddy game of football, which ended in a win for the customers.
Players paid to enter and village businesses also donated towards the match at Cheddar Football Club, which raised £400.
Employees from businesses on the Oldmixon Industrial Estate in Weston took time out of their lunch hour to do their mile and pupils from Worle Community School took part in a fancy dress run on Friday.
Swimmers also did a charity mile, or 65 lengths, at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre.
