Body formally identified

THE body of a man recovered from water near Clevedon has been formally identified as David Ellams from Weston.

The 34-year-old was discovered by a vessel on Tuesday afternoon and was recovered by Portishead's lifeboat.

Dave and his friend Lee Tompkins were dragged out to sea on June 23 after deciding to try and swim out to Birnbeck Island.

When attempting to return to shore they were beaten by a strong undercurrent.

A second body, recovered on Tuesday from water near Barry, South Wales, is yet to be formally identified.
