Traffic jams to ease in town?
04 November 2009
TRAFFIC jams could be eased on a main route into Weston thanks to a £97,000 project.
Work to reduce congestion at peak hours on Herluin Way is due to take place later this month.
Work will start on November 23 on extending a lane into Hutton Moor Road by about 50m in an attempt to stop queuing spilling over into the main lanes.
New traffic lights will also be installed at the junction.
North Somerset Council executive member for highways Councillor Elfan Ap Rees said: "The lane extension will be an immediate benefit and the existing traffic lights are nearing the end of their life expectancy."
Installing the traffic lights will take 10 days from November 21.
Cllr AP Rees added: "We will manage this as best we can and we have combined these two pieces of work."
There will be temporary traffic lights, a short diversion route using the Winterstoke and Flowerdown roundabouts and a partial lane closure on the A370 inbound daily between 9.30am to 3.30pm.
