A POPULAR seafront feature was removed from its home for restoration this week.

The historic Coalbrookdale fountain opposite Weston's Grand Pier, which has been a feature on the Beach Lawns since at least 1905, was taken away today (Tues).

Onlookers watched as bit by bit the boy and serpent at the top were removed, followed by the middle section and then finally the fountain base.

The feature will now be carefully cleaned and repaired by Dorothea Restorations - a specialist restoration firm based in Bristol.

Once finished, it will become the focal point of Pier Square, the area of two lawns and surrounding roads between Carlton Street and the Grand Pier, which is in the process of being remodelled.
