GLOBAL financial struggles are having a major impact on an Uphill-based charity.
Weston Hospicecare has made an urgent appeal for unwanted furniture, because donations have fallen by 20 per cent in recent months.
Vital funding for the charity comes from selling peoples' items in their shops, located in Devonshire Road in Weston and High Street, Worle.
But the recent drop-off in furniture donations means the charity, which provides care to people with life-limiting illnesses each year, is losing out on tens of thousands of pounds.
Demand for second-hand furniture in the charity's shops is currently high due in part to the recession, but there is also a reduction in the amount of furniture being donated as people are no longer buying as many new items.
Charity retail controller Peter Boyer said: "The sale of furniture contributes significantly to the charity's funding, which is why it is so important for people to continue to support it.
"If donations continue to fall it will inevitably impact on the income for the hospice in the future.
"What we are trying to do now is get people to remember us when they are thinking of getting rid of some furniture."
