This building belongs to Blackpool, Las Vegas, etc., but definitely NOT Weston-Super-Mare! This is a monster that will dominate and change Weston forever. The huge extra traffic volume at the quiet end of Weston would be an offence and desecration of that part of the town.
We don't need another large Hotel - we could revamp the current Odeon do give us a great cinema centre - we don't need more retails outlets. Whatever happend to the Beach Lawns Conservation Area? Amazing what some councillors turn a blind eye to!
What we do need is a good indoor swimming pool, restaraunt and toilet facilties - all of which could be done and still maintain the character of Weston.
For goodness sake - let's stop this planned violation of our town as soon as possible.

Just one picture with a strange perspective. What it really look like? We need to see the front view and what will it look like from the north. One can suspect why this is not shown...
Why is there a hotel, it should be on Dolphin Square. It's too big for this location.

Whilst I agree that another hotel is a waste of space I do think its fair to say that this would be better than what is there at the moment. This has dragged on for so long now that people just expect it to get refused just as all the other plans have been. What is needed is something fresh. Take a look at the XSCAPE venues in Leeds, Glasgow and Milton Keynes to see what they have. Why not something like that for Weston?

I agree with the XSCAPE comments. I used to live near Leeds and drove past at least twice a week.
It was eye catching and made me curious so one day I popped in. Surely this is what Westonians want? To attract attention and get people to visit.

Fantastic! Weston has started to drag itself out of the past over the
last two years and an exciting, multi use facility is JUST what the
town needs.
I hope they get on and build this as soon as possible rather than
pandering to the out of touch, fuddy duddies who want something more
accustomed to a Hi-Di-Hi holiday camp.
The developers really are wasting time listenening to the drivelling,
ramblings of people who will probably be pushing up daisies by the time
the building is completed.
Let's not forget Weston is a seaside resort and needs the facilities
and attractions to bring visitors to the town. The big events such as
T4 on the Beach, Helidays and the Enduro are fantastic and bring in
the crowds but we need things that are going to encourage people back
throughout the year. So let's build the 'new Tropicana' and then we can
move on to sorting out Birnbeck Pier!
Come on, it's time to put the 'Super' back into Weston-Super-Mare!

The most important thing is that we get on and DO SOMETHING at the Tropicana.
I've set up a new website to keep residents informed about progress on
the Tropicana and to keep a watchful eye on the council and Henry Boot
to make sure they deliver what residents want.

I Actually Really Like the look of the new tropicana, it will give me somewhere nice for me to take my children and as for saying this doesnt belong in weston is total BULL!! its about time weston got something decent, and make our town look nice and appealing...so what if it looks out of place, and looks like it should be in LA....Just means we'll get a touch of the L.A lifestyle then doesnt it

Have you been to LA? Does the LA lifestyle appeal to the average resident of Weston? Think seriously - this project will destroy the Weston we know and leave a cheap, glitzy, sham set-up in it's place. Is this how we care about Weston?

What difference does it make whether we the people of Weston like it or not? The fuddy duddies will do what they want anyway regardless of our views, just another paper exercise to make it look like they care what we think!

Give Boot the boot! This is an awful plan that will spoil Weston forever!
Please - we want a Swimming Pool, Cafes, even a Bowling Alley - but not another Hotel! The present Hotels are struggling enough!
A smaller complex would cater for all this.

seeing the photo on the front page of the Weston Mercury I really dont like the concept of the design at all. I think that the public in the town just want to see a covered swimming pool on the Sea Front and not all the added items such as the cinema and bowling complex.
If the council approves the planning application and this development is allowed to be built on the current site what sort of people are going to use the Tropicana when the winter months is here. It will be blowing a gale and do the developers really think people will visit. It also brings up what impact it will have on the Odeon and the ten pin bowling currently in Dolphin Square.

The picture displayed on this web page does not do the building justice, the impression one gets from this is that it is quite a reasonable size.(very good photography) I suspect that the actual size would be considerably taller, if one were able to see the size incusive of the proposed ninety room hotel; then a different impression might be given
I should like to see a picture of this building taken from the opposite side looking south and showing the full area taken up by the proposed hotel, then I am sure that this would show that by far the most intrusive part of the project will be seen to be the ninty room hotel which would in my opinion cut the Panaramic views over the bay plus the town of Weston in half. What effect this may have on tourism and visitors; I dont know.
As for the building itself, a fair design, but interestingly I have been unable to find another building in this area that it is in keeping with, certainly it would be a mix match but in the event that the project was not successful; then it would be quite easy to see that the hotel might be turn into flats which I should think might repay investors many times over... or am I being to cynical????
