i have just finished reading the short article about Kewstokes toll road and the opinion that due to there only being two small accidents (surely thats still bad!!) that the introduction of bringing back the toll has been put on hold. currently i am in my second year of uni in Devon so have missed hearing this news a home but i wanted to just state my anger at the
" spokesman said: "It is a pity these improvements in driving standards are still marred by a small number of youngsters who persist in tempting fate with reckless and sometimes noisy late-night driving, which not only puts all road users at risk but also greatly irritates Kewstoke residents."
yes i can see that younger drivers are maybe more careless as they are new to the driving game BUT it really upsets me to think that some old toff can sit there and and blame them for how dangerous a road the toll road is. After losing my two friends to one accident there just over two years ago i am outraged that people are still blaming the young for apparent reckless driving.
Only in the summer as i was stood by the road side, a couple in a estate car drove past me doing at least 35 mph. they weren't young, noisy or late at night maybe we need to slap their wrists too.
So maybe we should start educating not just the young people (who think that their invisable - i've been there, who have not been shown the true horror of road accidents) but also the older folks who think, they are more experienced and controlled behind the wheel.
Also its not just people driving too fast, the road is still dangerous especially when you don't drive it regularly.
and to whom ever said that in the past two years theres only been two accidents...thats two more than none thats like saying its ok for such a small stretch of road to have an accident a year??? hello is anyone in!!!!

The toll road is a normal narrow country road like hundreds of others in the country. It happens to have a steep drop on one side, but that side is well marked by posts and there are white lines to pick out the verges. The curves are quite gentle and clearly marked and the road surface is adequate.
Like all roads if you lose control of your vehicle and leave the road at speed you are liable to hurt yourself.
I think the point the 'old toff' was making was that restrictions should not be imposed on all drivers because of the actions of the irresponsible few.
The fact that the few are young doesn't alter the facts.
The accidents are the result of 'driver error' not an 'undrivable dangerous road'.

Maddy, look on the bright side! Tell yourself your fingers needed the exercise! Because had it been me, someone would have said, "practice makes perfect . . . . your keyboarding skills definitely needed the training!!!"
Have a great day,
Dave

I've used the toll road a few times recently during daylight hours while house hunting in the area. I don't believe it's a dangerous road as such if treated with respect. By that, I mean keeping to a sensible speed of around 20 - 25 mph and pre empting the unexpected. The only hazards I encountered were the idiots who persist in sitting two feet off your back bumper trying to intimidate you into putting your right foot down - and these seem to be people of all ages, presumably locals. Sorry chaps, it doesn't work with me. I drive at my speed, not yours: and so far I haven't gone over the edge.

As the saying goes, 'there's one in every crowd!"
You can't control other's behavior.... only your own.
And the way to stay out of trouble it to get out of the way.

"""there is a 25mph speed limit, if you keep to that and observe the road conditions you won`t crash !"""
Easy to legislate, more than slightly more difficult to enforce 24/7.
"""............we seemed to have imported from America - ie, it`s always someone elses fault !""" Really? Isn't that a little like pot calling the kettle black? I don't think it's entirely an American invention, and was around long before 1492!
