For 80 years the Brennan family have run the Grand Pier for us and our families. Many thanks to them for a striling job.
MY children and now my grandchildren have enjoyed many, many visits and many elderly locals and tourists have sat and watched the world go by while having their lunch. All friendly, amicable and low key. Now, we read that the new owners have stopped the elderly bringing their own sandwiches - they must buy their food from the Pier - and now horror- they have applied for an alcohol licence to sell drink from 5 different oulets on the pier.
The licence was granted but then someone unearthed an act of parliament stating that alcohol could not be seved on the pier. Never mind, the councillor allegedly said (as reported in paper) that the act of parliament is not really realistic today - oh wow - that does take the biscuit. is this man really able to singlehandedly repeal and dismiss this act of parliament?
I read that there had to be a consultation period of 5 days on the council website starting on wednesday, I have been on the consultation page - nothing. I telephoned the consultation officer - he only knew as much as me from what he has read, but he is going to try and get hold of the councillor and ask him!
Oh yes - the people of weston are being duped again. What next after drinks and live music? an offshore gambling licence perhaps?!!!!
