CALLING all groups working with youngsters – you could win hundreds of pounds worth of grant money.
The Mercury has teamed up with the Weston Lions Club to offer groups working with young people an exciting opportunity to win grants of up to £1,000.
Whether you run a youth club, scout group, young carers organisation or sports team, you can apply for funds as part of the Go! Kids Go! campaign.
Three main grants of £1,000 from local businessmen will be presented to groups at the Lions Real Ale Festival on July 29 while smaller sums starting at £100 will also be handed out from the Lions fund of £2,000.
Peter Coleman of Howards Motors, Michelle Michael of the Grand Pier and Alistair Mead of Puxton Park have all donated £1,000 for the major grants, which will be determined by a panel of judges.
To apply, your group must be based within postcode areas BS22, BS23, BS24 and BS25 and you must be a registered club, charity or not-for-profit organisation which encourages sport or wellbeing.
Grant money could be used to provide new training and sports equipment and kit, improvements to clubhouses and any facilities which may improve the health and wellbeing youngsters using them.
Mercury editor Judi Kisiel said: “We are really pleased to be involved in a community initiative like Go! Kids Go!
“It is a fantastic opportunity for groups working with young people to apply for funding which could make a huge difference to what they offer.”
The Lions club’s Eric Tones said: “The aim of Go! Kids Go! is to make a positive change to the lives of children and young people in our area.
“Because it is an Olympic year and the year of the Diamond Jubilee we want to have a project which celebrates both events, but particularly the Olympics, and can support local organisations.
“This is aimed at young people, and supporting groups and organisations that aim to improve their health and wellbeing while maintaining a strong community aspect.”
To apply, simply download an application form by clicking on the link to the top right of this article or pick one up from the Mercury office.
When you have completed the form, send it to Go! Kids Go!, The Weston, Worle and Somerset Mercury, 32 Waterloo Street, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1LW or hand it in at our office.
The deadline for applications is June 15 and the winners will be announced in the Mercury on July 26
