A Weston-super-Mare fish and chip shop has thrown a 100th birthday party for a man who has been visiting every week for the past 24 years.

Mick Dudley was born in Sedgeley near Dudley on December 5, 1917.

He moved to Burnham-on-Sea 35 years ago and has visited Papa’s, in Waterloo Street most Fridays since the mid-90s.

He met his wife Marita, a German national, in Hamburg during World War Two in 1945 which made it difficult to obtain permission for her to live in the UK.

Although she died seven years ago, Mick still drives and regularly rode his bike for more than 100 miles a week until two years ago.

Papa’s owner Adam Papa said: “Mick always says, jokingly, that Papa’s fish and chips is the reason he has managed to live to 100.

“Mick is a wonderful man and has had an amazing life.

“The reason I believe he has had such an amazing life is the love and care he has had from many friends.”
