SIDCOT School students have said that they feel "so proud" of their GCSE results.

Pupils received their results today (Thursday, August 24, 2023).

Students from the Winscombe school achieved 22% of grades between 9 to 7 (equivalent to A* to A) with 88% of scores between 9 and 4 (equivalent to A* to C). 

89% of students achieved 5 GCSE’s including English and Maths at grade 4 and above.

16-year-old Chloe Mead achieved an impressive seven grade 9s, one grade 8 and two grade 7s. 

Chloe, from Winscombe, said: “I felt so proud of my results this morning when I opened them, and surprised as I did better than expected but my hard work paid off!

"The support I received from my teachers was outstanding which is why I’m excited to continue my studies here next year. I will be taking my A levels and have chosen to study Biology, Chemistry, Psychology & Maths – it will be tough but I can’t wait!”

16-year-old Joshua Came, from Burnham-on-Sea, achieved five grade 9s, two grade 8s, and two grade 7s.

Joshua said: “I was thrilled with my results!

"They really reflect the hard work I put in, the support from the school and our teachers, and I even achieved 100% in one of my Drama examinations.

"I plan to continue my studies at Sidcot and have chosen to study Higher Chemistry, Maths and Drama, and Standard Psychology, German and English at International Baccalaureate, with the aim to continue my studies after School at Bristol University to become a doctor.”

16-year-old Alexander Milne, from Weston-super-Mare, achieved four grade 9s, two grade 8s, and two grade 7s. 

Alexander said: “All of my teachers have been so supportive throughout my time at Sidcot.

"I’m really looking forward to joining my friends in studying IB next year, and have chosen to study Higher Maths, Psychology and Economics, and Standard Chemistry, English and Italian.”

16-year-old Jasmine Came, from Burnham-on-Sea, achieved two grade 9s, three grade 8s, and two grade 7s.

Jasmine said: “I was so pleased with my results, even scoring 100% in some of my exams, and I’m cautiously optimistic to start my IB studies."

Iain Kilpatrick, head of Sidcot School, concluded: “In the context of tougher grading criteria and a 17% decline in top GCSE grades nationally, we are extremely proud of what all of our students have achieved today."
