FIRE crews were called to the scene of a "deliberate" wheelie bin fire in Weston last night (Tuesday, February 6).

Weston crews were called to the fire on Ankatel Close at 8.21pm. On arrival, they discovered that one wheelie bin had been set alight.

Using one hose reel, small tools and a drag fork, crews managed to extinguish the fire.

Also in use were thermal imaging cameras and gas monitors to check that the scene was safe.

A spokesperson from the Avon Fire & Rescue Service said: "The cause of the incident is thought to have been deliberate ignition."

In 2023, there were multiple instances of wheelie bin fires. In May, four wheelie bins were set alight on Grasmere Drive, whilst another was set alight on Dartmouth Close in November.
