TWO people have been taken to hospital after a multiple property fire in Banwell this morning (Monday, February 12).

Crews were called to the scene on Chestnut Close at around 8am this morning.

On arrival, they found two homes ablaze.

The fire service has said that the cause of the fire isn't yet known.

A spokesperson from the Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 8am to reports of a fire on Chestnut Close, Banwell.

"On arrival, crews found a fire affecting two residential properties. Two casualties have been transported to hospital via ambulance.

"The cause of the fire is currently unknown."

Residents were urged to stay inside whilst firefighters dealt with the situation. A Twitter post made at around 9am read: "If you live locally, we advise you to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed to reduce any smoke coming into your home. Thank you for your patience while we work to extinguish the fire."

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 08:03hrs on Monday 12 February to an incident near Banwell. We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer, a responding officer and a hazardous area response team and we conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Weston General Hospital.”
