"I read in the article 'Refurb of historic cinema gets started' (Mercury 21.3.24) that the outside of the old Odeon (now Plaza) Cinema is to have specialist cleaning of the faience tiles and the black glass tiles on the street level.

"This is to be greatly welcomed as the previous owners, the Odeon Organisation, spent little or no money on the upkeep of the building resulting in the vandalised  black glass tiles not being replaced and making the building look very shabby and unloved!

"The new Plaza sign is shining out over the town; when the old red neon Odeon sign was replaced with a blue coloured one, you could barely see it from across in Alexandra Parade!

"I wonder if there might be any possibility that the original green lighting around the top of the building will be restored and the red floodlight that illuminated the underside of the tower roof being reinstated?

"Night time architectural lighting is something we don't see much of in this country and it would certainly create a focal point and brighten up the dull town centre!

"The foyer and some other areas have been refurbished and I do hope that they can either get rid of the awful blue paint that was used to decorate the auditoriums, or perhaps repaint them back to the original colour schemes, when finances permit - its a bit like sitting in a rather claustrophobic black box when you go to see a film!

"As Cllr Mike Bell said, it is a landmark building and deserves to be cherished especially as Weston doesn't have much in the way of nationally important buildings.

"BTW, I went to see The Beatles performing - I couldn't hear much due to the screaming of the girls in the audience!"
