BREAN'S flood gates will be closed today because of high tides and poor weather conditions.

Access roads in Brean and Berrow will also be shut due to debris.

Somerset Council confirmed the news on X (formerly Twitter) this morning.

A spokesperson said: “Please be aware the flood gates at Brean will remain shut today due to the high spring tides and weather conditions.

“The access roads at Brean and Berrow will also remain closed due the amount of debris on the access roads.”

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Somerset coastline at Dunster Beaches, Blue Anchor, Steart, Stolford and Brean.

The agency says: “Strong winds and spring tides may cause large waves and spray overtopping on the coast.

“Our incident response staff are closing flood gates and checking defences.

“We continue to monitor levels closely.

“Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.”
