A WESTON couple are looking forward to celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary in their "own special way."

Aged just 17 and 19, lovebirds Elaine and Richard Murphy tied the knot at a local church in 1964.

Early on in their marriage the couple found out that they were expecting their first child. They went on to welcome numerous children into their hearts and home over the years that followed.

Elaine worked as a dedicated secretary, whilst Richard worked as a builder, putting his skills to good use to build the family's long-term home.

In 2017, Richard was diagnosed with dementia. Elaine cared for him until 2021, when her own health battle with cancer meant that Richard needed specialised care.

Elaine has lived at Diamond Court, an Extra Care Scheme, since 2021. She regularly visits her husband in a local specialised care facility.

Elaine and Richard will be celebrating their anniversary with friends and family later in the year.

Reflecting on six decades of marriage, Elaine said: “We will celebrate our 60 years of marriage in our own special way.”

This year, Housing 21, which operates Diamond Court, is celebrating 60 years as a housing association.
