A PIECE of art made out of blades from confiscated or surrendered knives is coming to Weston this May.

Coinciding with Knife Angel's visit to the town, the Knife Angel Torch will be put up on display in The Sovereign to hammer home the anti-knife crime message.

Designed by Alfie Bradley at the British Ironwork Centre (BIC), Knife Angel, a 27-foot-tall statue, has been created from blades confiscated by the UK's 43 police forces.

A Visit Weston spokesperson said: "The Knife Angel Torch is coming to Weston-super-Mare.

"When the Knife Angel arrives in North Somerset on Wednesday, May 1, the town will also be presented with the Knife Angel Torch.

"This piece of art is shaped like angel wings, and it’s been created from blades of knives confiscated by or handed into the police.

"The torch will be on display throughout May in the Sovereign Centre, Weston-super-Mare. It will also form part of the procession planned for the closing ceremony on Thursday, May 30."
