THE Playhouse in Weston has announced that a much-loved Gavin and Stacey star will be joining its panto cast this year.

Melanie Walters, who plays the omelette-loving Gwen West, will be starring in this year's Beauty and the Beast panto.

Other cast members will include  Derek Moran from Milkshake! TV and Michael Goble from Ministry of Science Live.

Derek has also appeared in TV shows including Top of the Pops, This Morning, The Late Late Show and CBBC, to name a few.

Michael has directed a number of family shows for theatres and attractions such as Legoland.

A spokesperson from The Playhouse said: "Oh, what's occurring...

"All the way from Barry Island to Weston-super-Mare, we're egg-cited to announce Gavin and Stacey star Melanie Walters will be joining our panto cast this year!

"Tidy."

The panto will be showing from December 7 to December 31, 2024.

The show's description on The Playhouse's website reads: "This magical tale as old as time guarantees hilarious comedy, beautiful sets and costume, live music and plenty of sparkle.

"Don’t miss this spellbinding festive treat…it’s going to be a feast of a Pantomime!"

Venue Manager, Mark Thompson said: “Gavin & Stacey is arguably one of the best British comedies to be made in recent years and has already cemented itself as a firm favourite and classic with audiences across different ages.

"Now with the wider variety of television options available, it’s even harder for a character to become iconic in their own right. The characters from Gavin & Stacey have absolutely done that, and Mel’s performances are legendary.

"We’re really egg-cited to have the Queen of Omelettes joining us for Weston’s best loved festive experience. Derek Moran and Michael Goble have firmly positioned themselves as our audience favourites and both bring something special to our Pantomime each year.

"Derek remains one of the UK’s most popular children’s television presenters and we’re delighted that he continues to call The Playhouse his festive home and of course, Michael as Dame has become part of what makes our Pantomime the best around. Even if he does misbehave a little more each year…"
