A SHARED house in Weston-super-Mare could be turned into a rehabilitation unit for people who have suffered brain injuries.

Currently an eight-bedroom house in multiple occupation (HMO), a planning application has been submitted by Truth Care Group to North Somerset Council to turn 11 Beaconsfield Road into a residential care unit.

The specialist post-brain injury rehabilitation unit would accommodate up to six people, with a sensory room, communal living room, kitchen and dining room, and staff office.

A statement submitted with the application said: “The service will provide specialist rehabilitation for six adults requiring support and rehabilitation following acquired brain injury, and neurological disorders with or without psychiatric comorbidity.

“The service will be operated from Beaconsfield Road, which offers easy access to local shops and amenities essential to supporting the community reintegration of residents.

“The service will be staffed 24 hours per day, by a highly specialist and trained team, with the expertise to support residents and to optimise their recovery and quality of life.”

It added that there was currently no specialist community provision for people who suffer long-term impairment and difficulties following a brain injury.

The lettings agency that became a flat

Elsewhere, retrospective planning permission is being sought from North Somerset Council for a property in Weston.

Letting agencies help many people to find a flat — but anyone turning up to Weston Property Letting Agency may have found a flat where they did not expect one, after the business was turned into a flat without planning permission.

Now retrospective planning permission is being sought for turning the lettings agency at 78 Jubilee Road — just off Baker Street — into a flat. The shop window was replaced with a rendered block wall with a smaller window in it, and the room turned into an en-suite bedroom.
