RESULTS day came early for year 11 students studying for GCSEs at Gordano School.

The results of mock exams taken at the Portishead school were delivered in an exercise simulating the nerve-wracking results day pupils will experience this summer.

Headteacher Graham Silverthorne explained the ethos is to prepare pupils mentally.

He said: "We have always put a high value on the mocks and we can predict quite accurately how a year group is likely to perform from these outcomes.

"A major part of the process is the wow factor or the shock factor, as students see their results all on one page for the first time and realise the next time they see results they will be the real thing."

Despite this being a mock event, it is not uncommon for there to be real tears and real happiness among pupils as they uncover their achievements so far.

Mr Silverthorne added: "With 63 school days remaining until the real examinations start, those who need to improve their performance still have time to do so, but the clock is ticking.
