A 24-year-old from Weston has been chosen to represent the UK at the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia next summer.

Alec Tomlinson will work with 45,000 scouts – representing nearly every country in the world – to share life skills at the event.

Alec said: “For me this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I’m going to take all that I can from the experience.”

The UK Scouting team will help deliver all aspects of the event from world-leading activities to staged event and mass catering.

Chief scout Bear Grylls said: “Congratulations to Alec and all the other UK volunteers who have been selected to support scouts at the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, in America.

“Over the course of the jamboree our volunteers will be able to meet people from around the world, take part in amazing adventures and experiences, learn new skills and be challenged to think about global issues in a new light.”
