VILLAGERS in Congresbury are appealing for information after ‘mindless vandals’ damaged a popular picnic spot.

Seven slats from a multicoloured picnic table, which is located in a children’s play area on the Millennium Green, were snapped and pulled away from the tabletop.

A statement on the Congresbury village website said: “Mindless vandals have done (this) to the picnic table on the Millennium Green.

“Seven slats in all were snapped, leaving nails sticking up and splintered pieces where parents and children are supposed to sit.

“If the table is replaced it will be with a solid top – but as of yet the cost of righting the damage is not known.”

The green, which is situated close to the Congresbury Yeo river, is maintained by volunteers.

Anyone with any information regarding the picnic table damage is asked to contact the parish council on 01934 833764.
