Applications have begun to flood in for Go Kids Go! – a youth project which has £9,000 up for grabs for youth groups in and around Weston-super-Mare.
One of the area’s newest preschools – Parklands Preschool – has applied for a £1,300 grant from the scheme.
The preschool was opened in Locking Parklands in April. It caters for children aged between two and four and is based in The Radio Wing, in McCrae Road.
But its outdoor space is not yet set up for children to play in and the preschool’s consultant Rebecca Taylor has applied for help through Go Kids Go!
The application says: “The outside space we have is an empty space, consisting of rough parkland grass.
“We would love to regenerate this space into a create play centre for the children, to include a forest school section for our lessons.”
The project will cost £1,522.40 and the preschool is hoping for a £1,300 grant from Go Kids Go!, which will help to pay for an outdoor wooden block set, a messy station and a water want.
Weston Swimming Club has also applied for a grant through the scheme, as it would like to buy new equipment to help children to learn to swim, compete at galas and take part in water polo.
The club’s volunteer co-ordinator Jenny Bull wrote in the application: “The club needs regular renewal of training equipment.
“The whole club would benefit from new kit, the learn-to-swim group always needs flotation devices and toys to ensure our youngest members – who are aged four – start their swimming journey well by having fun while being safe.”
The club also wants to buy iPads and underwater cameras to help its coaches, and has asked for a £1,000 grant.
Go Kids Go! funds individuals, clubs and not-for-profit organisations which work with children and young people 18 years old and under.
Grant of up to £2,000 can be awarded and previous Go Kids Go! winners can re-apply.
