A house fire in Weston-super-Mare last night (Monday) was probably started on purpose, firefghters have confirmed.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews to Locking Road shortly before 9.30pm amid reports of a blaze inside a house.

Two firefighters entered the house and flames were seen in the kitchen.

A fire service spokesman said: “Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a high-pressure hose reel to extinguish the fire.”

Smoke was then cleared from the house.

The spokesman added: “It’s believed the cause of the fire was deliberate.”
