Police have launched an appeal after a man was attacked in Weston-super-Mare’s Boulevard and left with a broken jaw.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary has published a CCTV image of a man who it believes can assist with its investigation into the ‘serious assault’ which took place on May 20 at 4.10pm.

The unprovoked attack took place outside Lucky Streaks hairdressers.

The victim gave an exclusive insight into his ordeal to the Mercury last month, saying he sustained ‘life-changing injures’ including facial nerve damage, broken teeth and a broken jaw.

He also revealed he has struggled with anxiety since the incident, which happened after the victim was walking home from Papa’s fish and chip shop.

The victim, who chose to remain anonymous to protect his safety, said: “I was walking back and the next thing I remember I was waking up in hospital.

“It was quite horrific and came completely out of the blue.

“I don’t know who the guy was (who attacked me) or what he looked like.

“I don’t know if it was someone I know or someone else. The whole thing is a blur.

“It is a nightmare – I’m waking up thinking who is it?

“I find walking down the street now is a potentially dangerous situation.”

A police spokesman said: “If you recognise the man, witnessed the incident or have any information please call 101 and quote reference 5218109709.

“Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or quoting the above reference number.”
