Weston revellers warned of drowning dangers

Late-night drinkers in Weston will be warned this week about the dangers of drowning.
The National Fire Chiefs Council launched a drowning prevention advice week on Monday.
Leaflets are being distributed at venues in Bristol, Bath and Weston to make people more aware of the danger around open water after alcohol has been consumed.
Steve Quinton, head of community safety at Avon Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Very sadly every year across the country we lose too many people as a result of accidents in water. This is a risk that all fire and rescue services are working together to reduce.
“In our area a number of those who have lost their lives are young men who have been out enjoying themselves before meeting tragic and untimely ends.”
People are advised to avoid walking by waterfronts on a night out, plan their journey home before going out and stay with friends.
