COACH company Bakers Dolphin is axing its Weston to London service after 30 years.

The London Flyer service, which transported passengers from the seaside town to the capital city, will terminate at the end of the month.

The daily coach link from the West Country is discontinuing due to lack of demand and rising fuel costs.

Bakers Dolphin, whose headquarters are in Weston, wrote personally to all its regular users, informing them when the last service will be.

Managing director Max Fletcher said: “The London Flyer has a very loyal band of customers who use it regularly and we have been contacting those we know to explain the situation.

“The London Flyer is not the cheapest coach link to London and it does not offer the frequency of service that major operators have and we feel it is time to end the service.”

The coach company put the closure down to increased competition on the route from rival companies and a desire to concentrate on the main coach tour, which focuses on shopping, theatre and sight-seeing.

The last London Flyer will be on August 31, but the company insists they will still be hosting day tours as part of their coach holidays.

London Flyer passengers wanting information should visit the company website or call 01934 415000.
