Banksy is not returning to Weston-super-Mare for an exhibition at the Tropicana, the Mercury can confirm, following rumours created on a social media site.

A Facebook group claimed Banksy would return to the seafront venue with a new show called Happyland – a contrast to the successful Dismaland show from last year.

The made-up posts were shared hundreds of times on the social media site, though they have since been deleted.

But a North Somerset Council spokesman told the Mercury: “There are lots of events planned at the Tropicana over the summer but as the building owners we can confirm that one is not a Banksy event.”
