Weston-super-Mare’s history is long and varied and people from the town and those who visited have left a lasting legacy. The Mercury has teamed up with Weston Town Council to celebrate 12 people with blue plaques – and we want you to get involved.

Last week, a plaque was unveiled to celebrate Olympian Paulo Radmilovic at The Imperial pub in South Parade.

Today, we are revealing the names of 12 more people who will receive plaques – but we want you to decide which order they will go up in.

To vote, simply read the biographies and then click the ‘up arrow’ on all those you think should get a plaque first. You can vote for as many – or as few – as you like.

The person with the most votes by May 6 will have the plaque which goes up next – subject to consent from the building’s owner. If more funding can be secured by the town council, then the plaques can go up much more quickly.

For the next month, we will be celebrating Weston’s history through the people who have made a difference to the town and the world.

Keep an eye out on the Mercury and the website for features on the people behind the 12 plaques, and more fascinating insights into Weston’s past.
