The 15-year-old from Kidderminster was left stranded and unable to make his way back to shore after being blown away from Berrow beach at around 9.55am.

A man swam out to rescue the youngster and the pair were escorted back to dry land by Burnham coastguard and lifeboat crews.

Both were checked over by paramedics and the boy was suffering from hypothermia after being in the water for more than 30 minutes.

A coastguard spokesman said he believed the boy had been taken to hospital as a precaution.
