A family had to be rescued in Brean after their car became trapped in sand.

The group was driving along the beach when the vehicle got stuck leading to a call out for the Burnham Coastguard Rescue Team at around noon.

Crew members made their way to the car before escorting the family of five back to shore while the car was removed once the tide had receded.

A coastguard spokesman said: “A costly lesson that not all beaches are the same and that you should always check your surroundings.

“This car will now have two tides over it and the owners will face an expensive recovery bill from a private company.”
