More than 100 children enjoyed an afternoon in Burnham-on-Sea with their favourite cuddly toy.

The Friends of Marine Cove Gardens, alongside Sedgemoor District Council, hosted a Teddy Bears’ Picnic in the gardens, in Marine Drive.

Raffle prizes were donated by toy store Design A Ted, in the High Street, and £67 was raised for the gardens.

Music was provided by members of King Alfred School’s brass band and there were many games and activities on offer, including a bear hunt.

Burnham and Highbridge’s mayor Bill Hancock and town crier Alastair Murray handed out the prizes to the winning children.

A council spokesman said: “It was a beautiful day and the event was well supported.

“This picnic is just one of the many free events we organise in Burnham.

“To be able to raise money for the gardens and to get the support of nearby business and schools is great for the community.”
