Avon and Somerset Constabulary have issued an appeal for information after a man was assaulted in Burnham-on-Sea on Sunday evening.

The incident took place outside the S&A Linens shop, in High Street.

A police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of an assault outside a second-hand shop in the High Street, in Burnham, at about 8.15pm on Sunday.

“The male victim was assaulted and suffered a cut on his head which required stitches.

“Our investigation into the incident is ongoing.”

Police are also looking into damage inside the shop, which closed in January 2017 and has been unused since, with a scientific investigation team working inside the shop yesterday (Monday).

Anyone with information should contact the non-emergency number on 101, quoting the crime reference number 5218032679.
