Barclays bank will close one of its Somerset branches in autumn as only 179 people use it.

Burnham-on-Sea’s Victoria Street branch will shut on October 19.

Customers will be able to access banking services at the Post Office in Victoria Street.

Richard Stockland, community banking director for Somerset, said: “The way customers undertake their banking is changing as people increasingly use online, telephone and mobile devices.

“At our Burnham branch, customer usage has continued to decline, we have only 179 customers who solely use the counter to undertake their banking, which is why we have taken the difficult decision to close the branch.

“We hope the availability of our nearest Barclays branches in High Street and in Regent Street in Weston, along with our range of digital channels, will help to ease the transition for our customers.”

Barclays is the latest bank to shut its branch in Burnham after HSBC and NatWest closed last year.
