A BUS driver has been praised for his quick actions after his vehicle caught fire in Weston.

The First Bus driver quickly evacuated the two passengers from the number seven bus in Milton Road on Monday after they smelt burning.

Bus passenger Sheila Lewis described how she could smell burning rubber, before the driver got out and said there was on a fire on top of the bus. Two fire engines were called at around 10.20am.

A First Bus spokesman said: “Our driver, using his training, quickly evacuated the vehicle, called the fire brigade and was able to transfer passengers to an alternative vehicle.

“His actions were exemplary.

“There were no injuries and our passengers were able to continue their journeys shortly afterwards.

“I’m pleased our driver’s actions prevented any alarm, however, I’d like to apologise to customers on board the vehicle for any inconvenience.

“We have launched an investigation to establish exactly what happened.”
