FROM 99-year-old grandmas to tiny toddlers, James Harwood has treated them all in the 10 years since he took over Optika opticians in Weston’s Sovereign Shopping Centre with his wife Alison.

Now the couple are celebrating 10 years of success and James says the best bit for him is the people he gets to meet along the way.

He said: “I’ve had judges, police officers, teachers, bakers, all sorts of people over the years. The eldest person I’ve treated has been 99 years old and the youngest 18 months old.

“It’s a real variety. For me, that’s what’s great about my job, all the people you get to meet.”

Optika opened when the Sovereign Centre was unveiled in 1992 but the couple, who are both fully-qualified opticians, didn’t take it over until 2005.

Mr Harwood said: “A lot of people come to us on friends and family members’ recommendations. We’re friendly, personal and, from my point of view, I treat everybody as my family; it’s about what advice I would give to my family.”
