No progress on future of Weston’s BHS building

A year after Weston-super-Mare’s BHS store closed its doors for good, it appears the future of the building is no closer to being confirmed.
The High Street unit has stood vacant since the department store went bust last summer, and councillors have raised concerns over the impact the empty building is having on trade.
North Somerset Council confirmed it has attempted to contact Gatsby Capital Three Limited, the owner of the building which is based in Jersey, but its efforts have fallen on deaf ears so far.
A spokesman said the council wants to hold dialogue with the building owner ‘as soon as is possible’.
They added: “The building is owned by an investment company.
“We have tried to contact them, as have the town centre partnership.
“We have not been successful so far but we do want to speak to them to find out their plans and see about bringing the premises back into use.”
